Glen Elmes announces Albert St boat ramp

Works to upgrade the Albert Street boat ramp began this week.

Member for Noosa, Glen Elmes, said the boat ramp at Noosaville was being rebuilt with funds from the Newman Government’s $50 million Marine Infrastructure Capital and Maintenance Program.

“The vital Albert Street boating facility was in need of an upgrade so I’m really pleased to see works underway on what will be a welcome upgrade for the community,” Mr Elmes said.

“As part of the $380,000 project, we’re rebuilding the boat ramp with two lanes as well as building a floating walkway adjacent to the upstream edge of the ramp.

“Floating walkways are a great asset to recreational boat ramps helping to reduce congestion and allowing for ease of boat launching, especially in busy times.

“They are also very helpful for children and elderly users entering and exiting their vessels at the ramp,” Mr Elmes said.

He advised that the project had been awarded late last year to local Sunshine Coast-based contractor, PJM (Civil).

“The contractor has started this week and expects to be finished by mid-year, weather permitting” Mr Elmes said.

“I ask everyone to please be patient while we undertake this project and thank you in anticipation for working with us so we can get the job done as quickly as possible.

“As the ramp will remain closed while works are underway, boat owners and other watercraft users can access the adjacent ramp opposite Thomas Street.

“Please use caution around the project site while the works are underway and be aware of those around you during busy periods,” Mr Elmes said.
