Beckmans Road Congestion Bust, a Must
State Member for Noosa Glen Elmes has called on the Palaszczuk Labor Government to make a commitment to duplicate or extend Beckmans Road to bust congestion and improve safety.
“What was once a dirt road to provide an alternate route in the event of flood, Beckmans Road now carries in excess of 19,000 vehicles per day, and must be upgraded to meet the needs of the growing community, which includes two large schools and several new housing estates.
“In a Noosa Electorate-wide survey of 23,000 residents late last year, more than one third rated the upgrade of Beckman’s Road as an urgent priority.
“I welcome the leader of the Opposition Tim Nicholls, Deputy Leader Deb Frecklington and Shadow Minister for Transport and Main Roads Andrew Powell who have to come see first-hand the reason this piece of road infrastructure is so important to the Noosa community at large and why it must be prioritised.
“Beckmans Road has reached saturation point and as a result has created gridlock conditions at major intersections that feed into and out of Eumundi Noosa Road and impede the safety of both road users and pedestrians.
“Based on current estimates, the overall project could cost approximately $40 million, which in road infrastructure terms is not a lot of investment for the anticipated returns,” Mr Elmes said.
