Elmes welcomes Noosa election announcement
Member for Noosa, Glen Elmes, has welcomed today’s announcement that Noosa will go to the polls on 9 November to elect its first Council under the re-established Noosa Shire.
Mr Elmes said the election would be “the last piece in the puzzle” of restoring the former Shire which was unilaterally obliterated by the Beattie Labor Government.
“The installation of a renewed Noosa Shire Council from 1 January will be a proud moment for the many Noosa people who have fought unfailingly for so long to have the council restored,” Mr Elmes said.
“My plea to the Noosa electorate is to remember how hard we collectively have fought to get our council back.
“It’s now up to each and every resident who’s eligible to vote to make sure that the Mayor and six Councillors we elect are up to the job and capable of guiding our community into the future.
“I have every confidence that Noosa includes people of the highest calibre who can form a council which will be innovative, forward-looking and fair as it deals with the range of issues and opportunities facing our community.”
Mr Elmes said potential candidates for Mayor and Councillor have until 17 October to nominate. Voting will be compulsory.
