Premier acknowledges Noosa's giving a helping hand

“The generosity of the people of Noosa makes me very proud,” Member for Noosa, Glen Elmes said on Monday prior to a function to acknowledge contributors to the Bundaberg relief effort.

“The Premier shares my view and has asked me to thank those involved personally on his behalf.”

Bundaberg was devastated on Australia Day 2013 by extraordinarily powerful floods.

The Rotary Club of Noosa sought and was gifted all of the pre-owned furniture arising from a refurbishment of the Sheraton Noosa Resort and Spa for use by members of the community of Bundaberg affected by the serious flooding.

“I am sure you will agree this is an outstandingly generous gift. However, while the furniture was free, the transportation of it to Bundaberg was not and so the people and organizations of Noosa came to the fore” Mr Elmes said.

“Firstly, as large long distance trucks could not easily access the Sheraton site and because the refurbishment was conducted on a staged basis so as not to disrupt guests to the Sheraton Noosa Resort and Spa, the furniture had to be taken from the Sheraton to a half-way house provided by Bunnings which kindly allowed holding storage of goods at its former site in Noosaville. From there, volunteers hand-loaded all of the gift into trucks for the journey to Bundaberg. As none of the gift could be palletized, manual handling was essential. Bundaberg Sunrise Rotary Club handled the unloading, storage and distribution at the other end.

“This has been an exercise of epic proportions and of an unmatched generosity of spirit.” Mr Elmes said.

“Not every individual involved can be thanked personally on an individual basis. However, to each, a collective thank you is extended.

“The organizations to which the Premier has written to express his personal thanks include, the Sheraton Noosa Resort and Spa, Bunnings Warehouse Noosaville, Ray Scholes Marine, Wimmers, Noosa Van lines, Sunshine Coast North SES, Built, Madill’s, Kennards Hire, Rent Me Truck Hire, Sunshine Mitre 10, Blownaway, the Cooroy, Peregian and Tewantin-Noosa Lions Clubs, the Rotary Clubs of Bundaberg Sunrise, Cooroy, Noosa and Noosa Heads, Luke’s Supa IGA, the Salvation Army Bundaberg, Tewantin-Noosa RSL, Cookies Trucking, Promotions in Motion and CBRE.

“All are outstanding; all deserve our admiration, recognition and thanks as they are great citizens,” Mr Elmes said.
