On the back of the outstanding Australian Conference Championships’ Grand Final win by the Queensland’s Firebirds, Member for Noosa, Glen Elmes MP, has extended his local Club sponsorship rollout to include the Noosa District Netball Association.

To date, sponsorships by the Member for Noosa include all football codes, tennis clubs, sailing clubs, the local Coast Guard and cricket teams.

“Netball is has the highest team participation rate of any sport for women and girls and doesn’t get the sponsor support and media coverage that it deserves.  I hope the Firebirds’ win will start to change that and that in Noosa, more locals will come along and support our team.

“Prior to 1901, Netball was known as women’s basketball with broomsticks for goal posts and wet paper bags for goal baskets.  After each goal was scored, the umpire had to use a ladder to retrieve the ball as these baskets were not open at both ends.  Things sure have changed and netball and our magnificent Senior and Junior players do our local community, and Australia proud” Glen Elmes said.

In further good news for local sporting clubs, Glen Elmes was pleased to see that the new Labor Government will continue funding the LNP’s “Get in the Game” initiative for a further three years and recommends that all Noosa sporting groups go to the website and apply under the funding guidelines.
