Help Glen Elmes Fight to Upgrade Beckmans Road

Member for Noosa Glen Elmes has launched a petition to garner support for the much needed Beckmans Road upgrade and is calling the community to action.

“Beckmans Road services schools and residential communities and provides an essential bypass around Tewantin. It links the major arterial roads of Cooroy-Noosa and Eumundi-Noosa. It is gridlocked and dangerous.

“My message is clear - If you agree with me that the upgrade to this vital piece of infrastructure must be funded and started, join the fight by signing my petition at, or call my office on 5319 3100 for a printed form.

“Repeated calls to the Labor Minister for Main Roads Mark Bailey to release his action plan for the upgrade has fallen on deaf ears. In July this year the Minister confirmed that his department is still undertaking planning studies. This is bureaucratic nonsense and completely unacceptable.

“Labor took $63 million from this region’s road infrastructure funding this financial year alone. Based on the Department’s lack of progress and the Government’s non-existent budget, any suggestion that Labor has any intention or capacity to fund the necessary upgrades is farcical.

“As a community, we must demonstrate loud and clear to the Government and the Opposition and anyone else who cares to listen, that this project has overwhelming support and action must be taken as a matter of urgency.

“In my view, a lack of action is bordering on negligence when you consider Minister Bailey’s own department named the Beckmans/Cooroy-Noosa Road intersection the fourth most dangerous in Queensland (TMR Ten Year Report 2006-2016).

“Add to this that in August this year we saw a life threatening accident involving a van and a 13 year old boy on Beckmans Road near Noosaville State School, which left the young student in a coma in a Brisbane hospital for a considerable period of time.

“Something must be done and it must be done now. Back in 2015, 34 per cent of those who participated in ‘Noosa’s Biggest Community Survey’ marked the Beckmans Road/Tewantin Bypass project as ‘very urgent’. I know there is more support than that out there and this petition is the vehicle to demonstrate this.

“Signing the petition has never been easier. Visit the secure dedicated website, visit my facebook page ‘Glen Elmes MP’ for the link, pop by my office near the Noosa Civic for a printed version or call on 5319 3100 to have one sent to you." said Glen Elmes.
