Welcome to Pomona, Cooran and Kin Kin

State Member for Noosa Glen Elmes has welcomed the communities of Pomona, Cooran and Kin Kin into the Noosa Electorate following the Electoral Commission’s final determination for the redistribution.

“I congratulate the Commission for considering feedback from the community following the consultation on the draft boundaries earlier this year.

“Sense has prevailed and the community of Rainbow Beach and Inskip Point remains in the Gympie electorate where they rightfully belong.

“The inclusion of Pomona, Cooran and Kin Kin also makes sense as the state seat of Noosa is more closely aligned with the Noosa Shire.

“I first went to Pomona in 1986 when the radio station I managed was the major sponsor of the Pomona King of the Mountain Festival. It was there I met two of the event organisers and local personalities Doug Bettens and the late Stan Topper, both of whom I hold in high esteem.

“Since then I would have attended around 25 King of the Mountain festivals and over the years I have come to know the Pomona community well.  I look forward to engaging with and working with them in the coming weeks and months, and along with all residents living in the Noosa Electorate, representing them to the best of my ability in the Queensland Parliament.

“Sadly, as expected from the draft boundary redistribution, I have lost the communities of Eumundi, Doonan, Verrierdale and Peregian Springs. These communities will form part of the new seat of Ninderry and I wish them well and will miss them dearly.

“With change comes many opportunities, the most important and exciting of which is the building of new relationships, where genuine understanding of a range of issues can be achieved and partnerships established,” Mr Elmes said.
